D. B. Cooper Theory

Let’s explore highly controversial and mysterious D. B. Cooper theory case.

This blog is about the “Mystery of Skyjacker”, A man calling himself “Dan Cooper”, a.k.a  “D.B. Cooper”  who bought a one way ticket on  a flight bound for Seattle, Washington (United States) and then, something happened which shook the whole world especially Airlines.

On November 24, 1971, the day, A man named as Dan Cooper who appeared to be in his mid 40s and about 6 feet tall bought a $20 ticket for “Northwest Orient Airlines flight 805′.

After taking off from Portland, he handed over a note to flight attendant, which she first put in her pocket without reading.

when, Cooper saw this , he asked her to read the note, in which he claimed to have a bomb in his briefcase and ordered the attendant to sit next to him and she did so.

Then, he proceeded to open the brief-case, which contained numerous wires, red sticks, and  battery . He demanded four Parachutes and $200,000 in $20 bills {worth about $ 1.2 million in the early 21st century}. The distance between “Portugal” to “Seattle” was of just half an hour but authority ordered Pilot to not to land the plane until they arrange the amount and It took 3 hours to land the flight in Seattle.

Cooper released  36 Passengers only after when authorities provided  him the money and parachutes. He didn’t threaten anyone except two pilots one was the flight Engineer, and a flight attendant. he forced them to stay on the plane. After receiving the money and refueling, he ordered the pilots to fly to “Mexico” city. As per the instruction given, the plane flew under 10,000 feet at a speed slower than 200 knots.

Around 8:00 PM , somewhere between Seattle and Reno,” Nevada” widely believed to be near, Washington. He locked everyone into Cockpit and he himself lowered the rear steps, jumped and disappeared.

Now, the investigation starts, Agency believed that Cooper knew both planes and the area , and it was speculated that he served in the military, possibly as a “Paratrooper”, later it was decided that he was not an experienced skydiver because the Jump was too dangerous.

Before giving money to Cooper , Bank noted the serial numbers of notes and then published into newspaper that whoever will bring a note of these serial numbers will be awarded, but no one could.

On the other side, this way of looting became so famous that 5 other criminals used the same way . In the first five years, agency looked some 800 suspects with almost all being eliminated. One prime suspect was “Richard Floyd McCoy”, who was arrested for a similar crime several  months later but later released.

Many speculated that Cooper who was outfitted in a business suit, trench coat, and loafers did not survive. At that altitude, the winds were blowing more than 322km per hour and the parachute, he used, could not be steered.

SENSE THE SUSPENSE!!!

IF, HE WAS DEAD WHERE WAS HIS BODY AND IF HE WAS ALIVE THEN WHERE WAS HE?

After years of dead-end leads, investigation agency received a break in 1980, when a boy found a decaying package containing $5,800  buried along the Columbia river.

The serial no. of the money all of which were found belonged to the same, which cooper asked for the ransom but nothing further was discovered except it.  Although, the FBI continued receiving tips till 2016, but nothing conclusive regarding cooper could be found. The agency finally closed its investigation with the suspenseful episode of Cooper’s life.

The mystery remained unsolved.
